Dr. Shenita Brazelton

This session is offered during APSI Event 2: Monday through Thursday June 26-29, 2023
Shenita Brazelton is a licensed attorney and an Associate Professor of Political Science at Tuskegee University located in Tuskegee, Alabama. She earned a BA from Tuskegee University in political science, a JD from Vanderbilt University Law School, and a PhD in political science from Georgia State University. She was a reader for AP US Government and Politics for several years and subsequently served as a table leader and question leader. She has previously served as a member of the AP US Government and Politics Instructional Design Committee.
APSI Course Description for AP Government and Politics: US
In this workshop, we will focus on discussing and reviewing the structure of the redesigned course in AP US Government and Politics.
We will discuss various pedagogical methods to teach the following components of the course:
- Big Ideas,
- Enduring Understandings,
- Learning Objectives, and
- Essential Knowledge for this course.
Participants will gain a better understanding of how these concepts are utilized to build a cohesive course framework.
We will also focus on the components of the redesigned exam. Particularly, we will cover in-depth the disciplinary practices:
- Source Analysis,
- SCOTUS Application,
- Data Analysis,
- Concept Application, and
- We will also review and discuss revisions for the multiple choice questions on the redesigned exam.
