APSI Online Course Description
This seminar is built on a truly collaborative experience. It is not a workshop where the instructor does all the talking; instead, communication flows in multiple directions, and every participant’s voice matters. Nor is it a collection of disconnected activities that may be entertaining in the moment but leave the real work for later. On the contrary, we design, analyze, and practice pedagogical strategies during the seminar itself, ensuring that every teacher leaves with tools that are immediately ready for classroom use.
Beyond addressing what students need to learn, this seminar focuses deeply on how to teach those contents in ways that are effective, dynamic, and meaningful. By the end of the course, you will have a clear and confident command of the required literary works, themes, historical periods, literary movements, and exam structure that students must master in order to achieve the highest possible scores.
Day 1 is devoted to the required reading list, course themes, exam structure, student-centered considerations such as equity and access, and effective use of AP Classroom.
Day 2 focuses on Short Answer Questions 1 and 2 from the second section of the exam, with close attention not only to what these questions require, but also to how to teach students to craft strong, appropriate responses.
Day 3 applies the same approach to Questions 3 and 4, which require full analytical essays.
Day 4 centers on the historical periods and literary movements that give coherence, meaning, and stylistic depth to the works studied throughout the year.
To meet the required 30 hours, the seminar combines synchronous work in Zoom with asynchronous independent work completed outside of Zoom. The seminar concludes with essential administrative guidance on syllabus authorization, along with time to address remaining questions after four intensive days of work.
You will finish the course exhausted—but with absolute clarity about what you need to teach, how to teach it, and how to support student success at the highest level.
If you are seeking a thorough, rigorous, and practical preparation for teaching AP Spanish Literature and Culture, this seminar is for you.
