Cheryl Anderson (B.A. Lit., M.A. Lit., University of Texas at Dallas) taught online Humanities, English, and Communication classes at University of Phoenix from 2006-2018 and Southern Arkansas University from 2018-2024, as well as teaching at Lovejoy Independent School District (LISD) in Lucas, Texas, since 2007. She currently teaches their highly successful AP Capstone program, which she established at Lovejoy High School in 2015.  She has read for AP Seminar since 2015, served as an AP Seminar Early Table Leader since 2017, and was the Professional Night speaker at the 2023 Reading.  Summer 2018, Cheryl joined the AP Summer Institute team as Presenter for the AP Seminar program. She has also presented at Advance Kentucky Fall Forum in 2023.
APSI Course Description
The AP Capstone Summer Institutes train instructors to teach college-level critical thinking and research skills while exploring academic and real-world questions, problems, and issues from different disciplines and from multiple perspectives. Special focus is given to facilitating student learning in collaborative settings while motivating students to think critically and innovatively about research questions.
The summer institute will cover:
  • Course goals, objectives, content, and resources
  • Curriculum framework of the program
  • Teaching strategies and best practices
  • Creation of course calendar, class activities, lesson plans, and formative assessments
  • Development of course syllabi for the AP Course Audit
  • Through-course and end-of-course assessments
  • Demonstration of AP Digital Portfolio
