Meet your APSI Consultant for AP Seminar ELA

Allison Malloy is a recognized leader and contributor to the AP Capstone Program. She teaches AP Seminar and AP Research at Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana, and brings nearly two decades of experience teaching diverse English classes across all skill levels. Allison has been involved with the AP Capstone program since its inaugural year, embedding AP Seminar as a required English credit for students in grades 10 through 12.
As an AP Seminar Consultant, Allison actively shapes the program's development and professional growth nationwide. Her consulting work includes leading professional development sessions, creating and recording videos for AP Classroom, and contributing content to the College Board’s AP YouTube channel. She currently serves as a member of the AP Seminar Development Committee where she actively works to create the AP Seminar assessments and ensure the validity and consistency of the scoring notes, rubrics, and exam materials. Allison has also previously acted as an English Language Arts expert on course implementation for English 10 as AP Seminar. Her commitment to exam integrity is evident in her extensive work at the AP Seminar Reading. She has advanced through various roles, from scoring and table leadership to her current vital position as an Exam Leader for both the Individual Research Report and the Individual Written Argument as well as Academic Integrity issues during the Reading. She also serves as an Assistant to the Chief Reader.
Allison holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Secondary Education from Butler University and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Ball State University.
APSI Session Description
Sharpen your instructional edge in AP Seminar! This interactive, four-day (30-hour) Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) is specifically tailored to strengthen the effectiveness of teachers (novice and veteran alike) integrating AP Seminar into the English/Language Arts curriculum. AP Seminar focuses on critical skills in research, evidence-based argumentation, analysis, and collaboration, making it an authentic fit for ELA classrooms.
The session will provide essential understandings of the course framework and a deep dive into the Performance Tasks and the End-of-Course Assessments. We will also focus on best practices for pacing, formative and summative assessments, and skill-building for all students, with opportunities for collaborative lesson planning, materials sharing, and peer feedback. Ultimately, this session provides essential tools to help new teachers build a strong foundation and allow experienced teachers to refine their practice.
