What my heart says: Education is a noble, democratic act. When approaching educational pursuits, my goal is to meet learners of all ages where they are and work with them to develop a community of learning and collaboration that will become a legacy for their organization. I expect to have tough, honest conversations with learning leaders, and I invite all members of a learning community to participate in feedback and growth as individuals and as a collective.
Lead developer of digitally enhanced English Language Arts content for grades 9-12 in the Hall County School District (HCSD). Creator of engaging student-facing curriculum via HCSD learning management system while engaging teachers in innovative curriculum design. Creator of Teacher Curriculum Community to enhance application of Georgia Standards of Excellence in ELA classrooms throughout the district. Works face-to-face with district ELA teachers while also maintaining a professional development website for teachers. Communicates and supports independent curriculum contractors hired to write teacher and student-facing content for HCSD. Collaborates with elementary and middle grades colleagues as they meet goals of HCSD.
Emily presents engaging week-long professional learning to prepare educators to teach AP Research throughout the United States. Professional learning content emphasizes the need to build pedagogical knowledge of the AP Research course and supports teachers to build and adapt curriculum that will be successful for their specific school settings. She has worked alongside Senior Director to organize and lead the build of AP Daily content for AP Research. She has served as AP Research Reader and Table Leader at the AP Research Reading since 2016.
Emily participated in the Year-Long Visiting Student Programme with Regent’s Park College of the University of Oxford. She earned her BA and MAT from Columbus State University, and her Ed.D. from Vanderbilt University.
APSI Course Description
During this AP Research APSI, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines. By attending this APSI, you’ll gain deeper insight into the following key takeaways, among several others: Understand the Course; Plan the Course; Teach the Course; Assess Student Progress; and Engage as a Member of the AP Community. In addition, specific attention will be paid to the following AP Classroom resources: unit guides, personal progress checks, AP teacher community, and the AP question bank.
