Meet your APSI Consultant for AP Research

Allison Paetz is the Vocal Music and Research teacher at Rocky River High School, where she directs three curricular choirs, two extracurricular ensembles, and teaches AP Research. She also serves as the president of the Rocky River Teachers Association (OEA/NEA). Allison earned her Ph.D. in Music Education at Case Western Reserve University. She earned her Master of Music in Music Education from Michigan State University after completing the three-summer intensive program. She is also a previous Case Western Reserve University graduate, holding a Bachelor of Science in Music Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Music.
Allison’s research interests include music teacher perfectionism, stress, and burnout; music teacher identity; secondary choral music education; and diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in music education. She has presented research at the Symposium on Music Teacher Education, New Directions Conference, Music Research and Teacher Education National Conference, Narrative Inquiry in Music Education Conference, Enacting Curricular Change in Music Education through Vernacular Music Conference, and the National Association for Music Education National Conference. Her research has been published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, the Journal of Music Teacher Education, contributions to Music Education, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education. She serves on the editorial board of Visions of Research in Music Education.Allison is a vocal adjudicator for the Ohio Music Education Association, has served as a reader and table leader for the Educational Testing Service (AP Research subject area), and is an AP Research Consultant for the College Board. She maintains memberships in OMEA and NAfME.
APSI Session Description
During this AP Research APSI, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines. By attending this APSI, you’ll gain deeper insight into the following key takeaways, among several others: Understand the Course; Plan the Course; Teach the Course; Assess Student Progress; and Engage as a Member of the AP Community. In addition, specific attention will be paid to the following AP Classroom resources: unit guides, personal progress checks, AP teacher community, and the AP question bank.
