Meet your APSI Consultant for AP Spanish Language and Culture
Brian Scott has a BA and MA in Spanish Language and Literature from Northern Illinois University. He has taught all levels but currently teaches Spanish 2 Honors and AP Spanish Language and Culture at Huntley High School in Huntley, IL. He has been teaching for 24 years and he has taught AP Spanish Language for 19 of those years.
He has participated in the annual AP Reading for Spanish Language and Culture almost every year since 2009 serving as a Reader or Table Leader.
He presents from time to time at conferences such as the ACTFL National Convention, the Central States Language Conference, and local AATSP workshops.He has authored resources for College Board such as a Course Planning and Pacing Guide and sample syllabi for course redesigns and new AP teachers.
He was a contributor/reviewer for Vista Higher Learning’s AP Spanish Temas textbook and their APSpanish Language and Culture Exam workbook 1st edition.
This summer institute is designed to help teachers deepen their knowledge of the AP Spanish Language and Culture course and exam through updated information, practical resources, and effective classroom strategies. Participants will explore key instructional approaches, exam insights, and ready-to-use ideas to enhance student learning.
APSI Session Description
The workshop will definitely address the upcoming changes to the 2027 College Board World Language exams, with a particular focus on the new Project Presentation and the Project Q & A. Teachers will engage with sample units, lesson plans, and authentic materials and creative activities aligned with the AP thematic units.
In addition, participants will learn how parts of the exam are scored and explore essential “do’s and don’ts” to better prepare their students for success. By the end of the institute, teachers will leave with a wide range of innovative strategies and tools to confidently teach the course.
Because this workshop is conducted online, participants are encouraged to actively engage and collaborate in order to help foster a more interactive and supportive learning environment.
