Meet your APSI Consultant for AP Chinese Language & Culture

Lucy Chu Lee is a nationally recognized leader in Chinese language education and a College Board–endorsed AP Consultant with more than four decades of experience in K–12 and higher education. She is widely respected for her contributions to AP Chinese Language and Culture and for her dedication to advancing high-quality world language instruction.
Lee spent 30 years at Livingston High School in New Jersey, where she built a comprehensive Chinese program spanning introductory through AP levels. She now teaches at Seton Hall Preparatory School, continuing to bring her expertise to new generations of students. Her teaching emphasizes communicative proficiency, cultural understanding, and alignment with national standards, making her a trusted mentor to educators across the country.
Since 2007, Lee has worked closely with the College Board as an AP Consultant and AP Summer Institute (APSI) instructor. She has led numerous APSIs and workshops nationwide, helping teachers design effective curricula, implement AP-aligned instruction, and prepare students for success on the AP exam. Her sessions are known for being practical, engaging, and grounded in real classroom experience.
Lee also brings extensive expertise in assessment through her long-standing work with Educational Testing Service. She serves as an AP Chinese Exam Reader and Praxis assessor and has contributed to test development, scoring, and item writing. Her involvement in the early development of AP Chinese and SAT II Chinese assessments provides her with valuable insight into exam design and expectations.
In addition to her teaching and consulting, Lee has co-authored instructional materials, published on language pedagogy, and taught as an adjunct professor at several universities. Her honors include New Jersey County Teacher of the Year and Distinguished Leader in Education from Rutgers University.

Welcome to our AP Chinese Language and Culture APSI
During this AP Chinese Language and Culture session, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines. By attending this APSI, you’ll gain deeper insight into the following key takeaways, among several others: Understand the Course; Plan the Course; Teach the Course; Assess Student Progress; and Engage as a Member of the AP Community. In addition, specific attention will be paid to the following AP Classroom resources: unit guides, personal progress checks, AP teacher community, and the AP question bank.
